The mist cleared to give this rare view of Kanchenjunga, taken shortly after dawn from Sandakphu on the Singali ridge. It was a two day walk from Maneybhanjyang to reach this spot at 3636m. The promised view of Everest did not materialise because of extensive cloud in that direction.

The Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre helps exiles to make a living in Darjeeling. This lady produces delightful knitted goods which are sold in the Centre's shop.

Many Indians flock to Tsangu Lake to see snow for the first time. The appropriate cold weather gear is hired from local traders. I showed them how to make snowmen and snowballs, then retired from the ensuing snowball fight.
